Invertebrates: Pelecypods: Nuculana sp. (Texas) | Print |  E-mail
Written by Keith Minor

Nuculana Link, 1807 sp.

Remarks

  • Collector:    Keith Minor

  • Formation:  Taylor Group, Wolfe City Formation

  • Location:     Lamar County, Texas

  • There are several possible species that this clam may fit into (described from the Navarro Group-see Stephenson, 1941 below).  However we don't have enough information to make a positive identification.  The hinge line and teeth are so important in this regard.

  • We did not find a Nuculana reported from the Wolfe City Formation in the literature.

Remarks

For comparison with Nuculanas from slightly higher strata in Texas:

  • Stephenson, L. W.  1941.  The Larger Invertebrate Fossils of the Navarro Group of Texas (Exclusive of Corals and Crustaceans, and Exclusive of the Fauna of the Escondido Formation).  University of Texas Bulletin 4101, 72–80; plate 8, fig's 19–30 (several species shown)..
