General Geology/Mineralogy/Paleontology Links PDF  | Print |  E-mail

This Section is a little different than the usual COOL LINKS page.  Instead of scouring the online country side for links that are related to our interests, we've provided a space for collectors and dealers to get the word out about their websites.  Other links can be found on the appropriate pages throughout the site.

You don't have to be a contributor to cretaceousfossils.com, and your personal or commercial website doesn't have to be related to fossils from the Cretaceous Period.  The best way to sell yourself is to send us your logo (180 x 120 pixels), which is your "business card", the URL to your site, and a blurb about yourself, and we'll post it (just click on the logo to head to website).

Mississippi's natural history museum is located in Jackson--the state capital.

The MMNS houses over 10,000 catalogued fossil specimens, which  represents a small part of its biological collections. Similar to many state Natural Heritage Programs, which inventory and measure the biological diversity over in-state regional ecological settings, the Paleontology Section records the fossil diversity throughout Mississippi's various regional stratigraphic and paleoecological settings. Our fossil logo is 'Ziggy'--a small Eocene archaeocete mounted by Ken Carpenter (DMNS) and now our State Fossil. Mississippi has a rich Cretaceous zoological heritage and is home to several Cretaceous type taxa, including the mosasaur Platecarpus tympaniticus, the bourgueticrinid Dunnicrinus, two cassiduloid echinoid species, and some half dozen species of lepadomorph barnacles.

If you're in our area, the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center is a new museum in Woodland Park, Colorado with exhibits of fossils from North America's Cretaceous Period, including marine reptiles, pterosaurs and dinosaurs. We have a working fossil lab viewable by visitors, educational activities, and a great gift shop.  You can also visit our gift shop online at www.prehistoricparadise.com.
